I do have information on the family of Josiah Churchill and Elizabeth Churchill.

Apparently nobody has any good information on the ancestors of Josiah Churchill. I have been corresponding with a Denny Churchill (E-mail me directly for his address.) He writes:
"I, like many others, have a great interest in trying to track down the roots of the American Churchills in England. Nobody has been able to come close in doing that, however. Only 'theories' exist.

Of all theories, the one I like best is there was a Joseph Churchill, a merchant out of London in that 1630 era, who was the father both of Connecticut's Josiah/Elizabeth Foote and Plymouth's John/Hannah Pontus.

A fact is both American Churchills named their first born sons JOSEPH. And, both lines named daughters, Mary and Hannah. Following generations had Josiahs, Nathaniels, Samuels, Sarahs, etc. The fact is fathers seemed always to follow the custom of naming their first born after their fathers. But, it seems all the people trying to develop these English connections make light of the fact, even dismiss it, when trying to solve the mystery. Most seem to want to believe there is no connection between the Plymouth and Connecticut Churchills - even though those two Churchill arrived America about the same time. (There are sources that claim even the settler Churchills themselves denied kinship.) No data can be found for either Churchill regarding departure England, or arrival New England. Their marriage dates, 1638 for Josiah, abt. 1642 for John, are the first American recordings for the two.

Big problem for the JOSEPH theory is it is claimed he was unmarried and had no children.

Otherwise, I have not yet given the mystery a concentrated effort."

The D. in my name is for Deming, my mother's maiden name. Elizabeth Churchill was Elizabeth (Foote) Churchill, the daughter of Nathaniel Foote and Elizabeth Deming. I do have some limited ancestry of Elizabeth Foote.
