A biography and portrait of Irving W. Church, Great Falls, MT, are included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 694.

Irving W. was born, 23 Aug 1885, third of four children of George W. and Mary Jane (Seabold) Church. George was a farmer in Waukesha County until 1895 when he moved to Milwaukee where he was employed by the E.P. Allis Company until 1903.

Irving was educated at Lawrence College, Appleton, WI, and graduated from the University of Chicago with the class of 1911 from the Columbia Law College. To finance his college expenses, he went to Butte, MT, where he was employed as a motorman by the Street Railway Company every summer from 1905 to 1911. In 1901 he taught a term at North Lake, WI; during the winters of 1906, 1907, and 1908, Irving taught at the Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington, MO. In Sep 1911, Irving began law practice in Great Falls, MT, as an associate of William G. Downing. On the death of Mr. Downing in 1912, Irving succeeded him as an attorney for the Great Falls National Bank and built up a successful practice of his own.

On 23 Aug 1913, Irving married Miss Gertrude Longeway, daughter of Dr. Albert F. and Gertrude Longeway of Great Falls. Gertrude Church died 20 Feb 1915, leaving one son, Albert L.
