Regarding the Jane Gilmore theory that she married George Church about 1768. It all started with the "Horn Papers" Professional Genealogist have warned people but his material is all over out there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horn_Papers Here is an explanation of the Horn Papers, where the Jane Gilmore got in to the story. But the Horn Papers said it was John Church who married Jane Gilmore. Since they could not find or properly identify John Church they thought “he must have meant” George Church. And so the error began. http://www.umass.edu/wsp/methodology/errors/horn.html Here also it tells how they determined the Horn Papers were not what they were supposed to be and that they were frauds. Many have claimed a Jane Gilmore as the wife of George Church. There is no evidence to support this. The source was not to be trusted and was only relying on a persons memory. Here I present what evidence I think shows who the real wife of George Church was. Jane Faris as shown by her mother's will. Will of Isabella Faris, March 1787 Frederick Co MD Liber GM No. 2 Folio 324 In the name of God Amen. I, Isabella Faris, widow of Joseph Faris Deceased of Frederick Co and State of Maryland, being weak in body and sound in judgment and calling to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this my last will and Testament and first of all I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust to be buried in a Decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors and for such worldly store as it hath pleased God to bless me with after my just debts and funeral charges is paid:-I give and bequeath in the following manner that is to say: -my son-in-law and Agnes McOney the sum of 5 shillings to be paid within one year after my decease and likewise to my son in law GEORGE CHURCH and Jane Church and likewise to my son John Feris all to be paid withing one year after my decease and all the remaining part to be equally divided between my two daughters, that is to say Margaret McAnear and Isabella Ramsey and for the management of this last will and testament I make and Ordain Joseph Ramsey and Alexnder Mcnear both my sons in law Executors of this my last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27th day of March anno domoni 1787. In the presence of Thos. Patterson, Jacob Connell and James Cooper Signed Isabella X Faris her mark 5th February 1790 in Frederick Co came Thomas Patterson and James Cooper to subscribe to being witnesses to the aforegoing last will and testament.
