Check the death certificates for the state of GA. The certificate should give you James Chumbler's parents'names.
I am writing the Chumley book of North GA and South Carolina. I can assure you that your Chumbler is really Chumley. Chumbler was just the old name used when speaking of the Chumleys. I've had this told to me by those who lived in the area all their lives. In Spartanburg, some called them Chumner. They are all the same family...trust me...many on the Net think I'm wrong. I know I am correct!
I am very familiar with the Mills family. Caroline Chumley married Adolphus Mills in Hall Cnty. Caroline's family lived in Dawson Cnty. Check the Census records 1850, 1860, etc. I'm sure you will find your Mill's from the Mill's in Dawson.
In Pickens Cnty., SC, there was a Chumley who married an O'Bryant. I hope this isn't a wild goose chase.
