Hello Bonnie! I too would dearly LOVE to find some information on a Chatham Chrysler. Unfortunately we are not looking for the same one!! I am searching for information on Alfred Chrysler (age unknown) who according to family story eloped to the States abt 1860 with 16 yr old Mary Anne Shackleton from Chatham. Story continues that he dies in a fall from a horse when their son Ernest Alfred b1861 was 4 and she & son did return to Chatham and married a second time to Andrew Charles Bryan.

If you are just starting out, go to the Ontario Genelogical Society's webpage and look how to research your family. They have books for sale including Althea Douglas' "Here be Dragons" and "Here be dragons Too" which are good sources of information on how things were arranged in Canada back then. Maybe you could borrow them through inter-library loan
I did go to the 1871 Ontario census on line (Archives Canada) and found one John Chrysler b US but Age: 32
Birthplace: UNITED STATES
Religion: Wesleyan Methodist
Origin: GERMAN
Occupation: FARMER
District: VICTORIA NORTH ( 053 )
Sub-district: Carden & Dalton ( C )
Page: 34
Microfilm reel: C-9982
Reference: RG31 — Statistics Canada

Your library may have a copy of the 1871 census on microfilm, or they can order it for Chatham area. If you have a nearby branch of the LDS Family History Library they are much faster to get the reels. Coincidentally Dalton & Caarden are within 20 minutes of where I live! Too bad that one is not your Chrysler!
