There are two William Chronisters that have been confused. The confusion stems from an apparent error in the Lower Bermudian Church records. Those records list William, b. 1801, as a son of Heinrich and Susanna Chronister.Based on Susanna's tombstone dates, and the records of her other children, Susanna would have been about 50 years old in 1801--unlikely but not impossible.I don't know if the error was made in the church book itself, or in the Edna Albert transcription of those records that I looked at.In any case, other records support the correction:
1.Heinrich Chronister (who d. 1818) had named his son William as one of his executors. At the time that Heinrich made his will, the William b. 1801 d. 1854 would not have been of age to have been named executor, and thus cannot be their son.
2.Heinrich Chronister's son William died sometime before Heinrich did (in 1818), because he is noted in the estate settlement of Heinrich as being deceased, and a new executor was named to take his place. The William b. 1801 didn't die until 1854, and thus cannot be the son of Heinrich and Susanna because he would have still been alive when Heinrich's will was probated.
Estate files and Orphan's Court records can be viewed and/or copied at the Adams County Historical Society in Gettysburg.
