Posted by: Deborah Brownfield - Stanley (ID *****1616) Date: February 27, 2005 at 15:00:39

The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, June 11, 1908

Born in Fondulac, Wisconsin, March 11, 1855. Removed with his parents,
DANIEL R. and MARY J. CHRISTY, to Lucas County, Iowa, in l857; was raised
upon a farm. December 14, 1881, he was married to MISS ELIZABETH HENRY,
daughter of MR. and MRS. E.M. HENRY, of Derby, Iowa. They moved to Kansas
in 1887, and returned to Iowa in 1897, where they lived northwest of Derby
until January, 1908. They then moved to Welch, Oklahoma, where he died
suddenly of heart disease Tuesday evening, June 2nd, 1908.

He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1855 in Derby, Iowa. While
living in Kansas he served as class leader and chorister in his church. He
was a devoted Christian man, serving the Lord with a degree of fidelity
wherever his lot was cast.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, five daughters and a little son.
Their eldest born child, a son, died in his infancy. ALMA, OPAL, BEULAH,
and ORLO, with the mother, were with him at the last. BIRDIE and her sister
MRS. MAUDE BROWN, are here.

He was in his usual health. In the evening after milking the cow he came
into the house, and spoke of feeling very sick. He had an apprehension that
the "time of his departure was at hand." In a very few minutes, without much
suffering, "The weary wheels of life stood still."

He was a good citizen, a kind and loving companion, a devoted father, and
his "departure" will leave a deep and abiding sorrow with those who knew and
loved him in all these relations in life. His brother and three sisters, MRS. ELLEN CULVERTSON of Grand Island, Nebraska, MRS. EVA BEVARD and MRS. ALICE M. HENRY of this place, survive of his father's family. The funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Derby, Saturday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock. Many sympathizing friends were present to pay respects to the memory of the departed. The interment was at High Prairie Cemetery beside his little son, and near the graves of his parents.
