John Christy of Claiborne Parish , LA
Posted by: Richard Moseley (ID *****8288) Date: May 30, 2011 at 17:55:49
  of 1173

John Christy of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana served in the 31st Louisiana Regiment during the Civil War. He died of pneumonia at Vicksburg on December 30, 1862. His death was officially reported in January of 1863, and some have listed this as his year of death. One on-line roster of the Regiment lists his name as Christer but the National Archives have it correct.

There has been some confusion because there was another John Christy who was from New Orleans, La, who served in the Consolidated Crescent Regiment. This John Christy survived the war and was listed in the New Orleans Census for 1870. Most importantly this Regiment was not formed until November 1863.
