Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday. But genealogists never rest!
There would seem to be something of a mystery involving Merrill E. Christy (abt 1889--1974) (see below). Merrill is the youngest son of Thomas J. Christy and Mary F. Meyer and a 2 X great grandson of Alexander Negley of Pittsburgh.
In the 1920 census, he is married to Elsie ( b abt 1896) with two children, Albert, aged 2; and Merrill, Jr., aged 1).
In the the 30 census, he is listed with a wife by the name of Essie (b. 1902) with three children: Jack, aged 11; Thomas, aged 10; and Sherly, aged 1. The 1930 census suggests that Merrill and Essie were married in 1917 when Merrill was 25 and Essie was 15.
To make matters even more confusing, ANCESTRY.COM's “One World Tree” project includes a tree that gives Merrill a first wife Essie C. Beck, b. 1901. Merrill and Essie are assigned there children as shown in the 1930 census. But Merrill is also assigned a second wife with the last name of Keller, with whom he had a female child.
QUESTIONS: Could Elsie R. Christy (age 24 in 1920) and Essie C. Christy (age 28 in 1930) be the same person? Could Albert and Merrill in 1920 be Jack and Thomas in 1930?
Can anyone add anything about the wife with the last name of Keller listed in “One World Tree”?
