Anthony,

The details of the boy Christmases I got from the parish registers of St Leonard's Shoreditch and there were definitely no girls and no Thomas-Hannah marriage. I may be able to get to the London Metropolitan Archive next weekend; if I do then I'll look up the Mile End details (if they are there) to verify that the IGI is correct and look for a marriage.

I too have been wondering about the "Cooper". The census records give Hannah as having been born "in this parish", which I took to mean St Leonard's, so I looked at all births of Hannahs within a suitable period, but I found no Hannah Coopers. In other branches of the family the maiden name has skipped a generation, so it might conceivably be Hannah's mother's maiden name.

As for Thomas's parentage...no idea!

Jacq
