The pioneers of this family hailed from Holland and settled in what is now Monroe Co. The family was founded here by two brothers, one of whom having been Henry, who was captured by the Indians and escaped.

David Christman married Mary Andrew and they had, Elisabeth, Catharine and Thomas. Thomas married Mary Smale and they had 12 children, among whom were; Aaron, Mary, Lucinda, Elisabeth and Edwin H., born in Monroe Co., 1852

Henry Christman, probably a grandson of one of the immigrants, was born in Monroe Co. He married Susanna Correll and their children; Elisabeth, w/o Abraham Altamose, John, Samuel, Maria married Anthony Christman, Christina married Jacob Boyer, Henry and David. The family were Lutherans and many where buried at the Jerusalem Ch.

John Christman was born June 9, 1809 in Monroe Co. He married Margaret, d/o John and Magdalena (Falstack) Stroll. Their children were; Edward, died at age 24, James S., Emma F. married Capt. McCormick, Amanda married Jonas Beers, Levi J., and Abbie married Henry Eschen.

James S. Christman was born Dec 31, 1845. He maried Ellen, d/o Samuel and Martha (Fulton) McLaughlin in 1875. They had children; Howard, Ira S., died age 20 and Samuel B.

Samuel B., maried Sarah (Schuler) Scott.
