My line is from son their Francois, who married Marie Anne Roy 1-12-1733
Their son Rigobert b abt 1735 took the name Rigobert Dupuy dit Moise.... seven generations after Rigobert is me.The name is rendered alternately, depending on the writer, as Moise or Moyse. My grandfather
was the last to have birth records given as Moise. The name has been Moses
since about 1900.My Grandfather was always referred to as Moses, as well
as the previous generation. The records, however use Moise.
Rigobert, I believe was buried as Moise Rigobert. He died of Cholera on
August30, 1832 at the age of 97.Records are from LDS films for St. Joachim de
Chateauguay, Quebec. There is another book by Coleman that is more extensive than the one by Baker. It mentions the ones in Baker's book in abbreviated form.I picked this up on the internet by typing in the words 'true stories of New England Captives'.
Here's another interesting note.In my local historical society there is a book of all the BDMs for the Dutch Reform church of Kingston NY.In it thereis a Moise Dupuis who married a Maria Wynkoop. They have seven children between 1686 and 1703.HmmmmDo you suppose old Moise had a double life?Kingston NY is a lot closer to Montreal than Schenectady.
Internet is wonderful
Carl
