Josephine Larkin & Nels Christensen of Newberg, Yamhill Co., OR
Subject:
Josephine Larkin & Nels Christensen of Newberg, Yamhill Co., OR
After untold hours of the days, weeks & months of researching my wife's line, we found the only bits of
info we had been given about my wife's G-Grandmother, Josephine Larkin, was a location & a date,
with no info we could find to prove or disprove that.
We were told Josephine was born 21 Jan, 1867 in Mankato, Blue Earth Co., MN. My wife is Mary Alice Monroe, nee Adams; daughter of Kathryn Lanor Moyer & Harold Wilson Adams Jr; who was the son of Alice Larkin Christensen (sometimes spelled Christenson) & Harold Wilson Adams Sr.
Alice Larkin Christensen was the Daughter of Josephine Larkin & Nels C Christensen. Josephine & Nels were married 24 Dec, 1889 in McMinnville, Yamhill County, OR.
We have traced Nels line back to Christen Jorgesen, B. 1784 in Denmark; and, we traced the Adams back to John Adams,
B. abt. 1769 in Fredericton, York, New Brunswick, Canada & Jane (last name unkown) B. abt1773 in same location. The proverbial "Brick Wall" for us has been Josephine Larkin.
However, I recently found mention in records from Wagon Trains to OR in or around 1880, where I found mention of
Christensens & a John Larkin coming to ORegon. I, also, have found mention of Land Holdings of a John Larkin in Newberg, Yamhill Co., OR. We know Nels & Josephine lived in Newberg, OR & prospered ; Nels was the First Mayor of Newberg, and we have a glowing report of that in a Newspaper Bio of Nels.
Nels & Josephine had quite a number of parcels of land in & around Newberg; and, Nels had quite a few important Businesses there, including a very Important Wool Mill, the first in the area.
We know that Nels & Josephine are both buried in Friends Cemetery in Newberg, Yamhill Co., OR. We are very anxious to hear from anyone who might know anything about our Josephine Larkin and her family, and Nels C Christensen. Also,of John Larkin. We have a good bit of info on this line leading on from Josephine, after her marriage to Nels.
Any info anyone might have will be greatly appreciated. If this ties in with your info we will be very happy to share what we have.
Thanking you in advance for at least a glimmer of hope; Mary Alice "Adams" Monroe & Guy Edward Monroe, Jr
