I just finished reading a book and into another on the Tsar Nicholas II and his German wife, Alexandra, grand-daughter of Queen Victoria of England and Prince Albert of Germany.
In these books, they discuss the visit of the Emperor and Empress from Russia to Germany. Hesse and Darmstadt Germany figured very largely in Alexandra's life. I suspect that the Christ families might have played some part in getting the Grand Duchesses of Russia out of their country and into other countries around the world.
I further suspect that this might be part of the reason that some of these families are having difficulty finding information on their ancestors.
My Christ family line has been DNA tested and we are Haplogroup "I1". My maternal line is MT DNA "T2" which matches with the mother line of Tsar Nicholas II whose mother was Danish.
Many families changed their names upon coming to America either for political reasons or because the spelling of some foreign names was too difficult for some of the port authorities to spell.
