Depending on which public official entered birth registries etc, French names were often brutally misspelled. In the case of my husband's great grandparents Francois Chretien became Frank and Marie-Louise Caouette (probably spelled wrong) became Lucy Howard. I am looking for specific dates and any other tidbits. They were from the L'islet area late 1700's early 1800's Thank you Sheila
