I’ll answer my own question first-I looked back through many old postings and found someone had written that this family was in Peoria, Illinois in 1850. I did find them there that census year, after much browsing with Heritage Quest.
I came across a lot of information on the Internet on the Chowning line years ago. Now I’m trying to take it all in.I don’t have the resources to invest in paid services. From what I have seen, the work that was done and posted by Darroll Chowning has about as much information as I think I need, statically. It’s sad that he no longer works on the family history. His chart has many dates including marriage date and place of Wm. I. Chowning and Julia Barham.I also found much work done on her family. I am mostly studying and following their migration to get a picture in my mind of who they were. Trying to put a face on them so to speak. I have been trying to learn a little about each place they lived during the time period. I’ve found the Coles Co. Genweb site interesting, any other suggestions?
My grandmother’s family was obviously part of the western frontier movement. My only grandparent whose family was.I am hoping to learn more about this and what affected their movement from Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri. Does anyone know if they were ever property owners in any of these locations? If anyone has any wills, personal stories or newspaper accounts they would be willing to share I would greatly appreciate it. I also found an old posting that referred to a law suit brought against the children of Charles Guthrie Chowning after his death. That sounded interesting. Thanks for replying. Patti
