In Cavaliers and Pioneers, Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants, 1620-1800, Vol. I, page 44 there is an entry for John Chandler who received 1000 acres for transporting his wife (Elizabeth Chandler) and 19 other people, including Georg Chowning. This is dated 6/7/1636.
I have a note I made to myself a number of years ago that John Chandler came to America in 1609 on the Hercules, aged 24 and servant of Thos. Willaby.
It would seem possible that either George Chowning transported in 1636 married the widow of John Chandler or a daughter named Elizabeth.
