I'm not a CHOWNING or CHOATE researcher, but on a page of info I was copying for my own ancestral info, there was the following.Taken from Tennessee Tidbits which recorded county court records for Tennessee:
Mary CHOATE, 28 Feb 1782, was ordered to appear at next court to show cause, if any, why her children should not be bound out.Recorded Washington Co., TN court minutes 1/156.
Thos. CHOATE, died before 24 Nov 1778 when Ann CHOATE qualified as administratrix, with Elij. SMITH, James HOLLIS and Robert SEVIER as her security.Washington Co., TN, court minutes 1/51.On 6 May 1783, a release was given from Austin CHOATE to Squire SMITH, Sara SMITH, John SMITH, Thomas SMITH, of his right title claim and demand unto the estate of Thomas CHOATE, proven by Emanuel CARTER, Ezekiel SMITH, and William Cocke, Esq.
Isaac CHOTE, 15 Aug 1782, was ordered that he be executed on the 10th day of September next.Recorded Washington Co., TN, court minutes 1/178.
I hope this is helpful to someone.
