Hi. I hope this will help identify my Choate family.
Family members of Mary Arminta/Armittie Choate(also known as Minti & Mary Elizabeth) told me often the following about Mary's family -
Mary's father was possibly James Choate,(supposedly Cherokee Indian) who was killed in California by government soldiers & his land taken away from him. Mary came by covered wagon with her mother (possibly Mira/Elmira Farmer Choate), 2 brothers & 1 sister & settled on Crow Mountain near Russellville, Arkansas (Pope County). One brother died on the way & is buried on Mt. Nebo (Mt. Nebo is near Dardanelle, Yell County, Arkansas, but I have also recently heard it was Mt. Magazine which is approximately 17 miles south of Paris, Logan County, Arkansas, on Highway 309).
Another version is that her parents & part of her family were killed when U.S. soldiers were moving the Indians from their homelans. This would mean that James & Mira Farmer Choate are not her parents.
James Choate's parents may have been John R. & Mary Choate. Some of James' siblings may have been Richard C., Christopher & Rowena Choate who were in Shelby Co. & Nacogdoches Co. Texas in 1850. Rowena married Samuel B. Musick who went to California sometime after her death.
If you or anyone knows ANYTHING about this family, PLEASE let me know.
