on the origin of Crittenden, I don't know, but I have found a little that may help about the origins of Chittenden..."It is said that the name 'Chittenden' is a corruption of an ancient Welsh and Cornish name, originally written 'Chytanedin' derived from the words 'chy' meaning 'house', 'tane' meaning 'lower', and 'din' or 'dun' meaning 'hill'.
