on the origin of Crittenden, I don't know, but I have found a little that may help about the origins of Chittenden..."It is said that the name 'Chittenden' is a corruption of an ancient Welsh and Cornish name, originally written 'Chytanedin' derived from the words 'chy' meaning 'house', 'tane' meaning 'lower', and 'din' or 'dun' meaning 'hill'. It's literal meaning is the 'lower house on the hill'. I got this from the fowler, terrill web pages....lots of info about Chittenden's....
