Major William Chittenden, born March 1594, was from the Parish of Cranbrook, in Kent, England.he died Feb. 1660-1. his father was Robert Chittenden.
He was married to Joanna Sheaffe, born abt.1613 also in Cranbrook. Her father was Dr.Edmund Sheaffe, and her mother was Joanna Jordan.
They moved to Guilford, New Haven, Conn. in 1639.

They had 10 Kids. He had been a soldier in the English Army in the Netherlands in the 30 Years war. He was a magistrate of the plantation and deput to the general court until his death.

He was also one of a company of 25, gathered chieflly from the counties of Kent,Surrey, and Sussex, who determined to leave their native land and seek a new home in the wilderness, in order to enjoy the free exercise of their religious principles. Their first recorded act as a separate community was the covenant which they signed on shipboard. The pact was signed 1 June 1639. If you think we might be related I'll e-mail you the 3 gen. I have...Love Carol
