Hello, nice to meet you, as of now, I don't know anything about a Sarah Elizabeth Chism. You mentioned her being born about 1840? So far this is what I know about our Chism line Elisha Chism born about 1846,Son of John and Elleanor Gillentine Chisum of Amelia county, Va. Elisha was married twice once to Elizabeth Walden 1787, Lincoln county, Kentucky, second wife was Wenny. Elisha moved to Lawrence county, ARk. 1820, he is on the census, he died in 1827, leaving a will nameing his wife Wenny. Wenny migrated to Izard county, Ark. about 1831, she is in the book Pioneers and Makers of Ark. she is one of nine from Izard. She migrated to Izard with a son named Benjamin Chism born 1796, Benjamin first was in Independce then he migrated to Izard county and remained there until sometime after 1861, he and his sons were all there on the voters poll tax list. Benjamin, James and William (Bill) Chism. Anyway on the 1850 census Benjamin had a wife name Polly born 1803 NC. She was Polly Walker daughter of John Adam Walker and Elizabeth Blair. They had children Polly and Benjamin had children Isham, Henderson, Washington, James, Benjamin, Elisha, Elizabeth, Wenny and William Chism born 1827. They are all listed on the 1850 census Izard county. So far children of Elisha Chism born 1746 are Leticia who married Dabney wade woodson Elleanor Nellie who married JOhn Adam Walker Jr. Elizabeth Chism who was born 1794 who married a Gray. Simeon George Washington Chism who was married 3 times, to Lankford, Burgess and Jane Knighton, two known children of knighton and george, Christopher Green Chism and Elisha. Also, one thing to remember when researching the arkansas Chisholms. The cherokee Chisholms John D. , ignatious and his brothers were in ARk. as early as 1812, they moved to Fort Gibson, Oklahoma by 1828. Our Chism line arrived here in 1820 and remained in Ark. they did not move or migrate to Oklahoma. There is a newphew to my Elisha that moved to Newton county, Ark.1850 named Obediah Chism and his wife Rebecca Gayllion, All of my Chisms descend JOhn Chisum of Amelia county, VA, and his wife Elleanor Gillentine. Then there is also a 3rd line of Chisms, James Chism and Tempy and Howell that also came to ARk. but it was much later. Some of this line stayed and then went on to Texas. This line is of Adam Chisholme the Jacobite who was dentured out in the America's for his war crimes against young stewart the pretender, this line is very well documented from South Caroline and so on. This is part of James and Tempy ann Howell Chisholme line. Also the Texas Cattle Barron Cow John Simpson Chisum was in Ark. for a while as well, he is also a newphew to Elisha Chism. He went to Texas, but came back to Ark. to the hots spring for it healing qualities, he died in Ark. and the family took him back to Paris, Texas where he is buried. So if you can keep the 3 lines separated, and zero in on what year your Chisums or Chisms or Chisholms migrated to ARk. this will help you pin down which line you descend from. William Chism born 1827, son of Benjamin Chism , married Mary ? we have been told Lewallen born 1839, Tennessee, they had 3 children Thomas Marion Chism born 1859, John Green 1863, and Mary and there is also a Jane, but I don't know that much about her, I will have to ask my cousin about her history. We are having trouble finding Mary's second and third marriage? William died about 1865, Mary remarried to a Thornton and a daughter named Sarah Jane born 1869, we were told she married a T. A. Wicox on Sept. 30, 1887. Mr. Thornton Died and Mary remarried to a Bales and had a son named William Bales. I hope I haven't confused you, but this would be a good start in narrowing down which Chism line you belong to.
