Hello, my ggggrandmother was Matilda Hash. We too have a story but the brothers avengining their father's death, killing a man and running to Texas. This family has been very hard to trace.

Notes from Claude Duffey Brown: "Caroline Benton got burned out in MO. Ther notes on the page state that Caroline benton was sister to John Chisam, and moved Aubrey Texas and then to Archer City, Texas. I believe that this John Chisam was a son of John and Matilda. Also my notes show other James W. Chism (note spelling). Consequently, I suspectthat the 'twoother boys" were John Chisam and James W. Chisam. Furthermore, my notes show that Matlda Chisam, Clemuel Clay Chisam, a son, and two other sons headed to Texas, and the two other sons..possibly John Chisam and James w. Chisam...were killed by bushwackers before they reached Texas. In any event, it appears that Clemuel Clay Chisam was the only son to come to Texas"
