There appears to be a matching family for your James and Rebecca Chism in Chesterfield Township, Macoupin County, Illinois, in the 1880, 1900, and 1910 censuses. Plus also the "Wheat Smith Riddle Chism" Public Family Tree on ancestry.com also has, in Macoupin County, James Chism married Rebecca Ketcham, and some of her ancestors, and so may be of help. (You have to be registered on ancestry.com to see that one, but you can register for free and see the public family trees.)
