22 Mar 2001 - Reference page 104 in the Medlam PDF Files. A comparison of the children's birthdays with their date of marriage would lead one to believe that there was a previous unrecorded marriage.
27 Mar 2001 - Reference pages 153 & 162 in the Medlam PDF Files. They lived in Tyendinga, Ontario.
28 Mar 2001 - Reference page 162 in the Medlam PDF Files. In 1857 William Fraser began operating a saw and grist mill on the banks of the Moira River north of Belleville. In 1993 it was still a thriving business in it's 136 year of operation. It has now been in the hands of the Chisholm family for five generations.

26 Sep 2003 - Allan Gillis in Ottawa sent the following notes made by a Thelma McDonald in 1980.
"Captain Alexander Chisholm of the Royal Africa Corps, later Colonel and MLA, arrived in Glengarry in 1817 and because of his rank, was allotted 800 acres of land with two rivers flowing through it. The Captain, realizing the potential of the rivers, the Delisle and the Garry, and the viability of sheep farming, decided to build a mill. In 1848, the mill in Alexandria had burned, also the mill on the Delisle River called "Muillean Ur" (the new mill), one of the earliest mills in Lochiel. Colonel Chisholm's property of Lot 35, 2nd Concession, Lochiel Township, is now the home of the Glengarry Golf and Country Club."24 Mar 2001 - Reference page 112 in the Medlam PDF Files and page 163 in the History of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Counties. Alexander was MLA for Glengarry from 1836 to 1841. This same History stated that he married a Janet MacDonell in 1825 so DJC replaced the Miss MacDonald on page 112 in Medlam with Janet MacDonell.
Alexander had been a Captain in the Royal Africa Corps before emigrating to Canada in 1817. MacKenzie on page 153 stated that he also was Colonel-Commandant of the 2nd Battalion, Glengarry Militia.
25 Mar 2001 - Reference page 167 in the History of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Counties. He was a near relative of the Chisholm Chieftain and was an important witness in establishing the right of James Sutherland Chisholm of Montreal to succeed to the title and estate.
05 Jul 2001 - Alexander signed the Address to the Chief of the Chisholms in 1832.
22 Aug 2001 - Donald Chisholm in Cornwall recently sent DJC an email message re what was found on Colonel Alexander Chisholm's Headstone. He died in Alexandria on Oct. 19, 1854, aged 64 years. The Headstone was erected by Rev. James J. Chisholm, son of Colonel Alexander.
23 Oct 2001 - Reference Sheet 2, Chart 4, prepared by Duncan "Darby" MacDonald for an article on Colonel Chisholm.
29 Mar 2004 - Bob Chisholm in England determined from British Army Lists that Alexander was a Lieutenant, not a Captain, when he went on half pay on March 25, 1817, the year he emigrated.

Notes
12 Mar 2001 - Reference pages 15, 100 & 222 in the Medlam PDF Files. Colin was the first Sub-Chief in Knockfin.
21 Mar 2001 - Tradition in Strathglass gives Colin I of Knockfin the credit for having started the droving of cattle from the Highlands to markets in the south. He made a modest fortune buying cattle from his neighbours, then extended his interests by buying cattle wherever he could find them. By 1678 he had amassed enough money to finance, to the extent of 12,000 merks, his brother Alexander XIX when he succeeded to the Chiefship in 1678.
Tradition also has it that the Camerons and the MacMillans of Lochaber banded together with the intention of invading lands of the Chisholm and rustling their cattle. It was Colin I of Knockfin who decided to do battle and resist this injustice. He disposed his Clansmen in a masterly manner in order to pour their bullets into both the front and the flank of the attackers. Despite the attackers further rally, the Chisholms were able to charge and by early afternoon the Chisholms had won the day. In their retreat, some of the Lochaber men met an old woman trying to conceal a small boy. She entreated them not to hurt the child as he was the son of Chisholm of Knockfin. The raiders agreed to take care of him and hoisted him saying in Gaelic "Don't worry, he is the safest tunic I can get." The old woman was naturally alarmed but was told to follow quietly. As the men passed out of the Quisachan woods the child was restored to her, none the worse for having been in the hands of the former enemy.
06 Apr 2001 - The exact marriage date came from Bob Chisholm in Scotland. Date of death came from a Michael Hendrix in Pasadena, Texas.

"About the middle of the 17th century (approx 1650) Alexander Chisholm(XVII) found himself owing money and sought refuge for some time on the continent, ending up in Rome. Whilst there he was received kindly by the Pope and promised that on his return to Stratglass he would ensure the survival of the faith. Alexander(XVII) was true to his word and exercized the greatest possible tolerance towards Catholics in Strathglass. The Chisholm Chiefs remained Protestant for fear of losing their lands."
2. The Catholic Mission in Strathglass from the Memoirs of Rev. Aeneas MacKenzie
"Alexander(XVII) was so deeply in debt that when he died in 1661, his son Alexander(XIX) could not be served heir until 1677. It was during the time of these two Chiefs that extensive parts of Strathglass came into possession of the prosperous Invernate MacRaes as collateral for loans."

12 Mar 2001 - Reference page 14 in the Medlam PDF File. By Charters of 1538 & 1539 James V confirmed the grants to John XIII of lands and barony made earlier to Wiland XII comprising Comar Mor, Knockfin, the two Invercanniches and the two Breakachies; also the lands and forests of Affric, Cullove and Bramulich. These lands had previously been sequestered by James IV for certain debts owing to the Crown by Wiland XII. In return Wiland resigned any rights of property he may have had in the Earldome of Ross to the King who held that Earldome at that time. All these lands lay in Strathglass. In the same year, James V granted to Hugh Lord Fraser the lands and barony of Erchless.
In 1555 Mary Queen of Scots granted to John Earl of Sutherland the land in Comar belonging to the deceased John XVI, probably as collateral security for a loan.
