Yes, we are of a Viking haplotype...I1a-N (Norse).
It is believed our MOODY's (Moodie's/Mudie's) left Norway sometime during the Viking raids of Scotland and Ireland.
The Moodie's of Orkney claim to descend from Norse lineage dating back to the time of Viking raids but that has been challenged many times and so far no proof (even via Ydna) has surfaced to resolve this issue as yet.
I have been told that a 60/67 match is pretty good and that I should be agressively seeking the paper trail now to prove these connections.
I not only have a 60/67 match to Chisholm with lineage claims back to Inverness, Scotland but to a few more of them as well. One at 31/37 with Nova Scotia links, and two at 29/37 with Scottish links.
While I know these are not very close, I was told that they are close enough that I might be able to find the genealogical links between the two families.
We also have very close matching links to the McNEILL families too and the Glendinning's (Scottish spelling)/Clendennen (Irish spelling). Chisholm, McNeill & Clendennen's are all at a 60/67 marker level match.
I have been told from the DNA folks that this is quite a rare occurance and that I should be as they said "agressively researching the paper trail".
So this is what I am now doing.
What I meant by our rare haplotype is that so far we are the only Moody/Moodie group to show up with the I1a-N type.
Most everyone else is of the more common R1b types.
Dr. Ken Nortdvedt labeled us the I1a-N(Norse) group so my research has only been among those that share that particular haplotype.
