Hi Sarah the Colin Chisholm you refer to was the head of the Lietre cadet family, the senior cadet branch of the Chisholms of Strathglass. He was most definitely a fountain of knowlede with regard to Highland customs and traditions, especially those of Strathglass. Colin Chisholm's ancestry is well known , and you will find a list of all his ancestors in the book History of the Chisholms by Alexander macKenzie, bearing in mind that this history is not definitive and contains errors and ommssions. In fact, Colin helped the author to write the book. I think Colin only had daughters, and his artefacts have now devolved on other family descendents who do not bear the Chisholm surname, thes artefacts include swords and weapons used by his ancestors in the 1715 and 1746 uprisings. You may also find plenty of info on Colin Chisholm by typing his name into google, and it would be refined if you also typed Lietre, perhaps also "customs" as his job was a customs man. You will be needing to look for a branch of the family earlier than Colin to see where your Roderick may have fitted in, I have checked through my copy of MacKenzies book and cannot find a likely candidate, however he should be findable through marriage record. Perhaps you can try a clan genealogist on the Clan Chisholm website who may be able to search. If ou still have male relatives with the "Chisholm" surname, you could also consider getting one to do the DNA test, there is a Chisholm project up and running at FamilyTreeDNA.com, and a profile is being built up of the various bloodlines of the Chisholms. All the best Robert Chisholm Notify Administrator about this message?
