According to Bert Chipman's book "The Chipman Family", Joseph Chipman (1771 - Aft1860) was the son of Jacob Chipman (1733 - 1777) and removed to GA from MA. He was a baptist minister. He married Nancy Jones (c1778 - 1840) on May 19, 1801 in Elbert Co., GA. After Nancy died he married Mary Turner in 1843. Joseph and Nancy had five children per the book: Mary (1805 - bef1853); Eliza Waterman (1807 - ); Sarah Ann (1809 - ); Thomas Weston (1812 - ); and Lucinda (1814 - ). In the 1860 census, Joseph is living with his daughter Sarah Ann and her husband Elbridge G. Cabaniss in Forsyth, Monroe Co., GA. At that time he was 89 years old. This record substantiates the father/daughter relationship with Joseph and Sarah Ann. Ages on the census match birth dates given in the book. Mary married Thomas Banks (1789 - 1835) in 1821 in Elbert Co., GA and Allen Fambro sometime after Thomas's death. Mary died before 1853 since by that time Fambro had married Elizabeth Hightower. Does anyone have additional information as to the connections between Mary and her father Joseph; and Joseph and his father Jacob? The Chipman book gives the connection, but I am still looking for other clues which will add to the evidence. I have not found Joseph Chipman in earlier censuses.
