From THE CHIPMAN FAMILY A GENEALOGY OF THE CHIPMANS IN AMERICA 1631-1920, by Bert Lee Chipman, published 1920: 468. Stephen Chipman, son of Barnabas Lothrop Chipman (144), was born in Johnstown, Leeds Co., Canada, August 8, 1805; died at American Fork, Utah, Feb. 18 1868. He was an early settler of Utah (1847), moving there from Bastard, Canada West while yet in young manhood. A sturdy farmer and cattleman, and a breeder of fine horses. Was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latterday Saints, commonly called "Mormons." Married, first, Amanda Washburn, born Sept. 8, 1805; died March 16, 1872; second, Phebe Davis, daughter of William Davis of Kinnerly Parish, Shropshire, England, who was born Oct. 10, 1828.
