Chipman Family Genealogy Forum

I know of two --possibly three -- Chipman genealogies. The first is THE CHIPMAN FAMILY A GENEALOGY OF THE CHIPMANS IN AMERICA 1631-1920 by Bert Lee Chipman. The other is THE CHIPMAN LINEAGE, compiled by John Hale Chipman III. Bert Lee Chipman was my great-grandfather. John Hale Chipman III contacted our family (the children of Bert Chipman, actually) for permission to use his work as a basis for his 1970-published book. Most of his work was on the later generations, born after 1920, and updating death information. (John H. may have also added a little more on the Chipman family in England.) John H. Chipman III did give credit to Bert L. Chipman. The family was a little upset because they claimed there were errors in the newer book. I don't know a lot about that because I was pretty young at the time. Bert Lee Chipman is said to have written an earlier genealogy that was published but I have never seen it. I got my grandmother's copy of her father's book but my uncle kept the John Hale Chipman III book. I would have liked to get them both. My grandmother let him keep the newer book to keep peace and because she knew he would try to sell the books after she was dead. She was going to try to get the other book to me later but died before she could. Bert Lee Chipman was working on a genealogy of the JORDAN family (his wife's)when he died. Unfortunately, most of his work was lost by uncaring family members. Only a few of his query sheets remain -- probably by accident -- and they give a glimpse of an early genealogist's work. What would he think of our Internet connections?
