American Birth Record 1879

My g-grandparents were missionaries in China from 1874-1879. Their three children were born there. I am specifically seeking birth record for my grandfather, Albert Josiah BLAKELY, b 21 May 1879 in Shouwo, China. Parents names, Josiah Blackman BLAKELY and Isabella Campbell BLAKELY.

Can anyone give me encouragement that this record even exists, today? I was told that the missionaries were expelled and records destroyed.

Is there an angel out there who can guide me?
