For my Chinese ancestors who does not have an Anglicized name, this is the technique I use to enter their name in the Family Tree program, that does not recognize Chinese characters.

(1) I take the Chinese character name then translate the characters into Pinyin. Keep in mind that Pinyin is Mandarin, and different Chinese dialects may use a different sound. Now I have an Anglicized name I could enter into my family tree program.

(2) I then make the original Chinese character name into a graphics/picture file and link it to the Anglicized name, so it is always available to refer back to. Now I have both names in my family tree program.

Using a Soundex search, different pronouncation of the Chinese character should show up too. This is how I do it.
