Hi William, Sorry I haven’t replied sooner to your posts. I had some contact with Greg some years ago. He has a good memory to recall that we corresponded about the name Greenfield! I came to a bit of a dead end with my research into J. A. Greenfield and family. They were all interred in Japanese prisoner of war camps and apart from one letter from Elizabeth Greenfield (James’ wife) to my grandmother in 1948, the trail goes cold. James’ wife Elizabeth was my great grandmother. Prior to marrying James, she had had an illegitimate child (my grandmother Ivy) who she left in England for her sister to raise. She sent funds and correspondence to my grandmother, and visited occasionally when she was in England, but we’ve no idea if the Greenfields knew about her. I have photos of Elizabeth and of all of the girls (Audrey, Elaine and Dodo) and newspaper clippings about Elaine and Dodo’s weddings (no photo of Audrey and your great uncles’ wedding unfortunately). I also have the last letter that Elizabeth wrote to my grandmother telling her about their experience in the camps. She says that Audrey and your great uncle went to Australia after the war, then headed back to China and in 1948, were living in Hong Kong. Just thought I’d try and pick up on this research again a couple of weeks ago and was very excited to read your post (and that of Brenda Bodell who replied to another of your threads). Let me know if you want copies of the items that I have – would be happy to send. Best wishes Bev Notify Administrator about this message?
