Hello Catherine,
You are probably referring to the newspaper _Celestial Empire_ which was an English language newspaper printed in China. It is held at a number of places, including Cornell and the Library of Congress, which has July 11, 1900 to September 28, 1929 print run (but is missing May - September 1927)
Are you related to the famous China naturalist Arthur de Carl Sowerby? I am familar with his life in Shanghai, 1930-1945. He also wrote a very extensive history of his family, entitled _The Sowerby Saga_.
