Hi,
I am trying to find some historical info on my great grandfater, Lum Chung, who born in Canton, China and found his way to the west indies at the age of 12-13 yr old. He travelled with his father who died shortly after the voyage, but was adopted by a pastor and when baptized, was given the name Edward Joseph. My grand mother is still alive, but doesn't remember much about her fathers past. he did not speak much about it and he did not even teach his kids chinese, since his rationale was since he is in teh US, he will speak english. Edward later ended up in St. Thomas, where he lived the majority of his life and had 13 kids. Much is not known about his past, such as if he had siblings or who his mother was. I know that he has a linage of family still in china and i have been doing a family tree for the family for the past few years. It would be nice to get any info on his background.
To tell the truth, i don;t know by what means he left china, but i can only assume by boat. he was born Oct 12, 1870. that is what we know of. And his name, as my Grandmother tell me is Lum Chung. I will find out the island he stopped at before reaching St. Thomas, and place it in another message. but any info on my great grandfather would be appreciated. Thank you.
