Joseph MOORHOUSE was told by his doctors in Indiana, USA, to seek a better climate for his health, and so he went to Chile in 1863, which still amazes me. He later imported a flour mill at Curico according to family sources who also say he was awarded a bronze medal in regards to this mill by the Republic of Chile. How might I find any information about this mill and the award? Has a history of Curico been written? The family in Chile doesn't know, probably because Joseph died in 1876; his little daughter was only a few months old. It is believed that his marriage (in 1873 to Maria Mercedes Castillo Valenzue)and the births of his children (a little son, also died in 1876) took place in Santiago. How does one obtain birth, marriage, and death certificates? Are there any censuses from this time period? Thank you so very much.
