My husbands mother ,Jessie Athey nee Kirkup always maintained that her mother Dorothy Lavinia Jane Kirkup nee Swinney born 1878 had died when she ,jessie, was around 11yrs old around 1915. Later we found that Dora had gone to Chile leaving Jessie and a younger brother Andrew,and 3 older brothers.
Thanks to records of ships and passengers leaving England I have found she left Liverpool(a goodly journey from her home in Northumberland) on the Oronsa ,23rd.January 1915,going to Valparaiso.Her occupation down as nurse. We do wonder why,how and what for ??? Postcards of Santiago were found though not written on,looks like 1920s or 30s.
Any info. ie. date of death,or info on her life would be great.
