I don't know if you will get this message. You posted a reply to mine a few years ago. This is what your message said:
Katia --I hope this msg gets to you. I was born in Chile and my great grandfather migrated to Chile in the late 1800 invited by the Chilean Govmt to form the Chilean Army. Does this match your research so far? There are very few Schmidt branches in Chile.
Could you tell me how many children your grandfather had? Do you know their names?
I'm still doing research on my family, no luck yet.
