Chileans are very friendly and modest. They will help you with the language and many speak english. There is a book written by a NY guy and a chiulean who lived there and wrote a book about Chilean Spanish titled "hOW TO SURVIVE IN THE CHILEAN JUNGLE" It is a lexicon of Chilean slang and spanish sayings which you should get to improve your social standing with strangers there who will view it as a friendly gesture.

Write to DOLMEN EDICIONES, Cirujano Guzman 194, Providencia, Santiago Chile (1996 John Brennan and Alvaro Taboada) Petertimber
