I am looking for information on my great-grandfather Dr. Gumercindo Toledo Henriquez, we know he was born in California in 1846 but not where, his parents were Fernando Toledo Codecido & Maria Teresa Henriquez Correa, both of Spain, they migrated to Chile ~1852, we know he studied abroad (Germany? England?) and became a surgeon, we do not know who his first wife was or their children, we know he lost sisters in 'el incendio de la Iglesia de la Compaņia de Jesus' in Santiago, Dec 8 1863, but not their names, he was widowed, remarried to my great-grandmother, Rosa Pabla Garzon Fraga ~1897, had 11 children, he had a practice in Copiapo, a pharmacy, land, was diabetic, she died in childbirth while he was in a diabetic coma, the newborn twins died the next day, then he died the day after (Sept 24 1916), the surviving children were divided among several orphanages and reunited years later, all material possesions dissappeared...
Does anyone know about ships passenger lists from California to Chile ~1852? Does anyone know about the registry for 'Las Hijas de Maria' in Santiago or any list of victims of the Dec 8 1863 fire of 'La Iglesia de la Compaņia de Jesus'? How can I access orphage records from 1916-1928?
