Jerry there are no Sehlke surnames listed in the C hile telephone directory but there is one SMITS listed for a comune near Santiago and nothing else. You can go to www.registrocivil.cl/oficina/home.html and request a copy of his death cvertificate BUT you must be able to read and write in spanish.

There is a paying website www.progenealogists.com/passengers.htm where you can submit the infromation and for a fee they will send you details of his immigration from Germany to Chile. The Mormon church family history library may be another source of information concerning passengers to Chile from germany free of charge. I am not sure so find the library nearest your home (www.familysearch.org) for the address. =Petertimber
