Ripley family in Chile - related to US or England Ripleys?

I know that one of the major retail store chains in Chile is named Ripley, but that it is not now owned by a family with the Ripley last name. However I know that there are members of the Ripley family still living there. I also know that there were major connections between Chile and the UK and San Francisco in the 19th century - Valpariso, Chile was a major stop on the route from England to San Francisco before the Panama Canal. Does anyone know more? Or know how I should pursue this?
