Our records show CHILDS origins as LeChild, Chyld, Childs, Chiles, and, finally, Childs. It seems that different branches of the same family might take different spellings.
As best we can tell, the transition from England to the Colonies (Virginia ) took place between 1572 and 1653. The man's name was Walter Chiles.
