Hello Deb. I´m English (though living in Spain) & I have done a lot of work in building my Childs family tree. It presently goes back in a direct line to Thomas Childe b. 1460.James is a common name in the Childs family & I have several descendants of that name. The nearest I have to the birth date of your subject is James Childs b. 1761 at Shenley, Hertfordshire, England, the son of James Childs b. 1735, also in Shenley. Hertfordshire is the home of generations of Child(e)s until my particular branch moved into London abou 1841.
