Dear Paul
I think I have had correspondence with you before. Leathy Smith was a sister of John W Smith and married James Washington Silvey. She also had an aunt named Leathy Smith, a sister of Josey Smith (Joseph Garrett Smith). These Smiths are the descendants of Robert Bailey Smith and Elizabeth Powell of Henry County, Ga. I have found a Robert B Smith in Campbell Co Ga but have not established any relationships with these Smiths.
John W Smith served in 35th Ga Rgmt Co E with several of his brothers-in-laws: John W Silvey, J M Childs, Daniel P S Childs (Pierce) who was killed at Petersburg in the las few days of the war, Abner Foster, John Foster who was KIA at Winchester, Va, Moses R Foster. Both Childs men and John Smith were married to Foster women. The patriarch of the Foster clan, Moses Foster (Sr) died in 1863. He and his wife Margaret had 13 children. Two of the Foster siblings married McWilliams siblings. I have encountered the Dorsett name plenty of times in my research on Campbell Co but have not discovered any relationships.
Eight of the Foster siblings, their families and their mother Margaret Foster went to Miller Co Arkansas and Cass County Texas (adjoining counties) in the years following the war. In my research on these two counties (Ark-La-Tex), I have discovered a great many other Campbell Co denizens. In fact there were so many ex Georgians in the area that Atlanta, Texas (Cass Co) was named for them. I would love to exchange info.
To make things complicated, a lot of these folks went by their middle names.
