Hi Judy, Was doing a bit of searching myself and came across this. Thought that it may be of help to you. I know the area that you are questioning quite well. and there are a few ironic facts that I found out. According to the 1923 census of the City of Taunton, MA there were a few Childs listed. William E. Childs had a business called (Jackson & Childs) which was located at 20 Spring Street although is residence is reported to be Rehoboth, which is a town 2 towns away but not far from Taunton, MA. Felix S. Childs is also registered he is noted to have been the assistant pastor of The Church of the Sacred Heart which is presently called Annunciation of Our Lord and his residence was 29 First Street...which is a house that my own Aunt owns and was the old rectory for the Church.Mina E Childs widow of Willis W. Childs resided on 18 Sumner Street which is close to spring Street. M. Isabella Childs widow of Frank C. Childs is listed to be residing at the 36 High Street address. Orin L. Childs and his wife Mae L. Childs who owned a taxi service ran from REAR 36 high Street but their residence is listed as 49 Bay Street which is across town. Vernon A Childs is listed as a salesman with his residence at the 18 Sumner Street address.William H. Childs married to Ethel B. are listed as wholesale hardware at 152 Winthrop Street. I can tell you more about this area and the residences if you wish...The City of Taunton was and still is sectioned off into villages. Each village has different ethnic orgin. Hope this helps
