My great-grandfather was Benjamin Franklin Marion Childress (he seldom used the name Benjamin), who was born 5-14-1831 in either SC, GA, or AL (birth places reported in various census records). His father was reported to have been born in SC, and his mother in GA. He married (1)Mary Elizabeth Coats on 1-24-1858 in Lauderdale Co., Mississippi; and (2)Mrs. Sally E. Long in Texas. He died 6-18-1913 in Cottonwood, Callahan County, Texas.
I have been frustrated for years in my attempt to identify his parents because there were so many men of similar age living in the same areas who were named Franklin Marion Childress. If anyone can offer any help in identifying his parents it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
