Royce, if it's any consolation several of us have encountered the same wall. I have seen the inventory of William's property when he died in AL. I suspect he may have been born later than 1750, maybe closer to 1770. I've not seen anything proving Obediah (my ancestor) to be William's son. I've seen this group (I believe) of Childresses and some Snows buying/selling land in Surry County NC before 1792. If you get any further info from your posting several of us in the Childress Family Association and others would very much appreciate your sharing it.
