Mark,
I understand your statements about the Childress/Childers lines. However, in my family, they did use both names--for a generation or two anyways. I have references to Jesse (b. c. 1794) as both Childers and Childres. His son, William, and the other children seemed to keep the Childress spelling of the name. Any ideas/opinions on how this happened? I'd appreciate your comments.
