I read with great interest Mark's reply and he may well be correct in that the Childers and Childresses were different in their introduction to this country. On the other hand, I have found the names spelled differently in older cemeteries when I know there blood relationship. Not only do the old census takers mess it up, but the stonecutters.
The national CHILDERS/CHILDRESS FAMILY ORGANIZATION does not make a distinction, but base on Mark's letter maybe we should.
Sincerely
Jay Childress
